Lover.ly + The Gloss Guide

Beautiful Gowns Inspire Beautiful Makeup

I'm thrilled to be teaming up with Lover.ly, the wedding binder that lives in a cloud. Think Pinterest for weddings with amazing wedding planning features. I have designed 3 makeup looks for 3 incredible wedding dresses. These 3 dresses are all so different and beautiful in their own ways. I had so much fun delving back into the world of weddings! Here is my hair and makeup inspiration for these gorgeous gowns.

For the first look I took inspiration from one of my best friend's wedding look. This dress is so different and just plain stunning. I wanted to keep my look classic, yet bold. I think the dress makes such a statement there is no need for over the top makeup. Her blue eyes popped and her raspberry lip was classic, but still gave a little color. I think the red lip in the runway look is really beautiful, but I don't think it's practical for a real bride. I'm just not a fan of a red lip on your wedding day. It could be perfect- or it could be a complete disaster. I like that her hair is pulled up to show off the beautiful top.

Eyes: nudes with a pop of plum and lashes that are super emphasized at the corners
Lips: raspberry
Face: lightly bronzed with a rose cheek color

For the second look, I took inspiration from my own wedding. I came across this dress and thought it had similar details to my own dress. This dress is just flawless. I think the hair and makeup I wore on my big day would compliment this dress so well.

Eyes: bronze, gold, and browns with corner lashes.
Lips: pink/coral
Skin: full coverage foundation with rose cheeks
For details of all the makeup I used in this pic click here.

For the third dress I wanted to go with an ethereal, whimsical look. This dress is beyond gorgeous. All of the exquisite details and the cap sleeve make this a dream dress. For this look I love the hair in a messy, lived in side braid. The makeup is bronze, pink, and oh so innocent.

Eyes: orange and pink bronze colors are used, brows are full
Lips: baby doll pink with a hint of plum
Face: flawless airbrush look with pale pink blush

Hope you enjoyed these fun bridal looks! Be sure to visit Lover.ly to help create your dream wedding.

Updated Skincare Routine

Oily/Combo/Acne/Anti-Aging- Down to a Science!

(Click on any product above for a link to purchase)

I like to update my skincare routine on the blog every now and then as it changes. For the most part it stays the same, but I have switched a few things since my last post. I'm super happy with this routine, and for the first time in years my skin is consistently clear and happy!
Here is my exact routine:

Step 1: Wash face with Kiehl's Rare Earth Deep Pore Targeting Daily Cleanser (It feels like you're washing your face with a luxurious mask that slightly foams - my skin has never felt so clean)

Step 2: Tone with Mario Bedescu Special Cucumber Lotion on a cotton round (this is antibacterial and calming)

Step 3: One day apply a small amount of Proactiv Plus Pore Targeting Treatment all over face. (Seriously - a little goes a long way so just do a couple small pumps. This does not irritate or dry out my skin whatsoever. I have never had any luck with Proactiv in the past - but their new Plus line is amazing - very gentle and I NEVER breakout anymore. I'm beyond thankful to have found this!)

Step 3: The other day I apply a few drops of Skinceuticals Phloretin CF all over my face and neck. I even put it under my eyes. (This stuff is like liquid gold - seriously it costs $185. The great thing is that once it's absorbed it stays on your skin for 72 hours. This is why I don't use it every day. Sometimes I go 2 days without using it. There is no need to use it every day! This is my anti aging weapon - it's basically a super concentrated antioxidant with anti-cancer, anti-fungal, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties.) Read more here!

Step 4: Murad Anti-Aging Moisturizer SPF 20 (My absolute favorite day time moisturizer - never white or chalky)

Step 1: Wash with Kiehl's Rare Earth Deep Pore Targeting Daily Cleanser

Step 2: Tone with Mario Bedescu Special Cucumber Lotion on a cotton round.

Step 3: Apply a pea size amount of Obagi360 Retinol 0.5 (I personally do this every other night and on the off night just use a moisturizer. It really seems to be helping with fine lines, dark spots, and large pores. It NEVER irritates my skin, never causes redness, & works great in conjunction with the Proactiv)

Step 4. Moisturize with Murad Pore & Line Minimizing Hydrator. (I'm so in love with this moisturizer - I will use it forever and ever! It's so light and absorbs so quickly - yet it's super moisturizing. I also use this alone under my makeup if i'm going out for the night. If I'm doing full blown makeup I skip all the other serums and what not and just opt for this moisturizer only)

Step 5: Apply Kiehl's Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado all over eyes (I am doing a full post on this because it is INSANE - I am so in love. It is so rich and moisturizing, the texture is perfection, and it is gentle enough to apply all around eyes and lids)

Thanks for reading! I know it's a lot of steps, but this regimen truly works. XOXO

Babo Botanicals

I don't do a ton of posts on baby products, but this is one my baby and I both use. I keep this by my bathtub for if we ever take baths together. I don't want any of my chemical laden hair products/body wash to touch his skin!

I love the way it smells (a light berry scent), it does a great job cleaning and conditioning my hair (Sulfate free), and it is great for baby too! It doesn't ever bother his eyes and his hair always smells yummy!

Really quickly - the main reason I love this product: Babo Botanicals is a small, natural hair and skin care company. The products are all organic and botanically based. They are all made on a small farm in New York. I love that they have products for every age (newborn to adult). Look how cute this little farm is!

Babo Botanicals is currently sold in both baby and natural food stores nationwide like Whole Foods, Buy Buy Baby, and Diapers.com

Latisse Review

Want thicker and longer lashes?

I have been using Latisse for 2+ years total now and on and off since 2010.  I feel like I can give an experienced and honest review of this product. We have had a pretty long relationship! I took a 16 month break while pregnant/breastfeeding and am back on it for the last 7 months.

The main questions I get asked about Latisse

1. Where do you get it?

I get mine from a local MedSpa. You can walk right in and purchase it without an appointment or seeing a doctor. It runs anywhere from $89 to $150 depending on what size you get or how much they are charging. Sometimes they will run specials - but expect to pay at least $100. I bought the large bottle last time for around $140 and it came with a buy one get one free offer. I mailed in my receipt and sku off the box - a month later a brand new full size bottle arrived! Great deal!

2. Does it work?

Like a dream!! My lashes are so long they naturally curl. It is unbelievable how well this product works. They are also much darker/black now. People always ask me if they are my real lashes or if I have eyelash extensions. I love that I can say YES, they are real! Because they are! They use to be barely noticeable at all and were stick straight. I really and truly love my results and never want to stop using it! I never wear fake lashes anymore - woo hoo!!

3. Does it irritate your eyes?

At first - yes. I have light blue eyes and they are very sensitive. When I first started using the product they were a bit itchy and red. It only lasted for a couple of weeks. My eyelids were also a bit red at the base of the eyelashes where I applied. It was not noticeable. This was also temporary. It does not bother my eyes AT ALL anymore.

4. Does one bottle really only last one month?

No!! My bottle will last me 3 or 4 months. I even use it in my eyebrows. BUT I do not follow the directions (I am not telling you to do the same - this is just what I personally do). You get a pack of 80 applicators (with the small size bottle). The directions say to use one applicator for each eye. I use one applicator for both eyes and the same one for my eyebrows. If you use both you are wasting so much product. They tell you to do this so you do not risk getting an eye infection. I never get eye infections, I don't share my makeup with anyone, I always apply on a freshly washed face before bed - so I really am not worried about it! You are applying it right at the base of your lashes, not inside your eyeball for crying out loud!

All in all - an amazing product that does what it claims!

(I was not asked to review this product by Latisse.  I purchase it on my own!)

Illuminage Copper Pillowcase

Skin Rejuvenating Pillowcase

I have been waiting to post this for over a week because I really wanted to give it a good trial! This pillowcase from Pond's Institute is clinically proven to change the look of skin in just 4 weeks (well, I couldn't wait that long). It claims to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and improve overall appearance of skin.

I love to sleep on a silk pillowcase to avoid getting wrinkles and the added benefit of copper is just a bonus. I was really thrilled to try this top of the line pillowcase. I have tried another copper pillowcase from Bed, Bath, & Beyond. It seemed like cheap silk material and I didn't really care for it at all.

The benefits of copper: Copper is the third most abundant trace element found in the human body. Copper peptides have been clinically shown to offer a wide variety of benefits for the skin and hair. The anti-aging benefits are due their ability to promote production of glycosaminoglycans like hyaluronic acid (a key ingredient you should look for in your moisturizer). The glycosaminoglycans are essential for helping the skin tissue remain plump and supple. Ok, enough of the technical stuff!

I think it will take some time to truly see a difference, but I do believe prevention is key. I am a side sleeper, and the left side that I sleep on definitely has more wrinkles than the right. The material is very soft and not too slippery. I don't like a super silky pillow or your head just slips all over the place! I didn't have any problems adjusting to sleeping on a new pillowcase. I did notice right away that I don't have any creases on my face when I first wake up. I will continue using for the full 4 weeks and report back! So far I don't see any reasons why not to use this! Any silk pillowcase will prevent wrinkles, but why not add the benefits of copper if you can!!

City Lips Review

Collagen Peptide Lip Plumping Treatment

I have seen this brand pop up a lot lately on various beauty bloggers pages, Instagram, etc. and was super excited to try!

I'll start off by saying I'm not a big fan of lip plumpers. They burn, have no color payoff, and make my lips all red. Just personally not my thing.

I wanted to try this for a solid week before reviewing.

My thoughts:

I first applied the clear treatment and let it sit for about 5 min. It tingled just a tiny bit, but nothing that really bothered me. I then applied the sheer pale pink color "Los Angelips" over this.

I kid you not - a few minutes later I looked like I had lip injections. They were seriously huge. They were a tiny bit numb too, so maybe they felt bigger from that as well.

Bottom line - this stuff seriously works if you are in the market for a lip plumper. I've tried a few others and this seemed to have the most drastic results.

I'm still not a lip plumping fan - I just don't like my lips to tingle or burn in the slightest. The color was very sheer and did make my lips a bit red. I tried layering it with lipstick and liked it MUCH better. I did the clear treatment, a nude lipstick, and then Los Angelips over that. Really liked that look and still felt nice and plumped.

Ambre Blends

My Current Obsession

I feel like I say "I'm obsessed" a lot - but this time I'm literally psycho obsessed over this line. I have been to their website 72328410390294 times today to "window shop." What is this line and why is it so great you ask?! Let me tell you!!

When I was 7 months pregnant I purchased a small roller ball of organic oil perfume at a small boutique in Nashville. I was really crazy about putting anything on my body that wasn't the purest of the pure. I didn't wear any fragrance my entire pregnancy because it was my fist baby and I was scared of everything! This oil was Ambre Blends in Ambre Essence.

It's extremely hard to describe a fragrance in words. This is the most heavenly scent I have ever smelled (I will say heavenly a lot in this post) in my life. It is a smell that you literally cannot pin or put your finger on. I die for any kind of musk and this -to me- is a musk. A very light one though. The smell is almost like the smell of clean skin - yes clean skin and heaven. The company describes this scent the best - "A clean, euphoric, and sensual aroma." Ahhhh....yes those were the words I was looking for!!!

I have been wearing this scent ever since I bought that beautiful little roller ball of heaven. The best part  of this oil is that as it warms on your skin throughout the day, smelling better as the day goes on. It's kind of hard to smell it on yourself, but throughout the day I get little whiffs of it. Even my baby smells like it by the end of the day. My husband is always saying how good he smells. Uhhh...HELLO it's me?! The baby is taking my scent credit!!

I ended up reaching out to this company when I saw on their website that they offer tons of amazing products in my beloved scent. I had no clue?! All this time and I could have been burning candles of my scent all over the house! They offer 3 other scents, but they are all based with the Ambre Essence scent - just tweaked a little (I still like the plain Ambre Essence the best). They have lotions, deodorant, face oil, sprays, candles, and soap. I was DYING, I mean DYING to try some of these out. I said this earlier - but incase you forgot - these are all organic products and made from the purest natural oils. Such a plus for me!

They sent me the most amazing goodie bag of products to try. The Soap, Skin Tonic, Natural Deodorant, Spritzer, Body Cream, and 4 vials of oil to try. I have been using them for 5 days now. I've used every single product multiple times. I am so thrilled right now I could cry. Every single one of them is my new favorite product.

Natural Deodorant - I have used this 5 days in a row now. I only apply it at night (after shower) and not again until the next night. I haven't reapplied during the day once. You know why? I don't have to!! I did a post on Lavanila natural deodorant awhile back and this seriously blows them out of the water. They should probably just pack up and move on - sorry Lavanila. I never got smelly at all. Ever. I have not worked out this week so I can't report on how it works after a workout. I was, however, out in the hot sun and never had any issues.

Soap - I just love it because it smells so freaking good!!! This doesn't leave my skin tight because it's made of olive oil.

Skin Tonic - I want to do a separate post just on this stuff. This is a face oil and I have the most sensitive skin ever. I break out just thinking about breaking out. I am the oiliest of the oily. I wasn't going to use this on my face because I was just too scared. Today, I had been at the pool and in the sun all day. After my shower, I thought, oh what the hell. I mixed a little pump into my moisturizer. It absorbed right in. My skin felt AMAZING. It's so soft and so moisturized. Not greasy at all. The best part - I keep getting little whiffs of the Ambre Essense on my face. Usually that would freak me out - but I'm so in love with this stuff. It really puts Josie Maran Argon Oil to shame - I never thought I would say that.

Body Cream & Spritzer - These are both really nice products, but the spritzer is not in my scent so I haven't been using it as much.  The body cream is really moisturizing and a great layering piece. I feel like the days I use the cream my scent is stronger and lasts longer.

Visit their website and all of their amazing, organic, skin loving products right here!

If you're in the Nashville area you can buy at any Blush Boutique.

UPDATE: The Skin Tonic did end up breaking me out a bit. 3 zits to be exact. Dangit!! Stupid oily skin. Oh well.

Natural Deodarant: Still working and have  smelled perfectly fresh for over a week now. I am amazed!
